Kai's father was a refugee that fled the Borg destruction of the El-Aurian home world and their surrounding systems, approximately thirty years before
Kai's birth. Traveling from system to system his father visited Betazed and fell hopelessly in love with his mother Vivian. After marrying, Darshan and Vivian lived mostly in transit for several years. When they reached Earth, they decided to settle in the beautiful seaside village of Yayoi, Japan. However, with the news of Vivian's pregnancy they decided to move to Tokyo, where Kai was born in the Spring of 2323. When Kai was 19 years old his mother died mysteriously of illness (one of the reason's he became a doctor). |

After becoming a medical doctor at the Tokyo Institute of Science and Medicine, Kai decided to become a
Starfleet officer when he was around 27 years old. He graduated
third in his Starfleet Academy class, with honors in exobiology and varied genetic analysis. He is talented in many other disciplines besides medicine
particularly astrophysics, psychology and piloting. Most of his free time is spent in the research lab's, but he enjoys hiking, cooking, high-orbital skydiving, painting, playing the violin and "listening" to his friends. Kai loves to laugh and is quite a jovial man, sometimes he has to hold back to keep his sarcasm in check. |

Darshan, like other El-Aurian's has an awareness that supersedes the normal flow of time and space, and while not capable of explaining his sensing abilities, he can detect time changes that would be impossible for nearly all other species to pick up. However, Kai has not been blessed with such skills of detection, due to the influence of his
Betazoid heritage. Kai struggles with his telepathic gifts from his mother, because it hard to be a good listener when you can easily read
someone's mind. Despite all this, Kai has become quite a good listener and very perceptive about people and their problems. |
