// Family History
The file had been buried deep, hoping to keep hidden the description of an
embarrassment Intelligence would have liked to ignore, but now the records
were once again opened to the light. Rhianna Jakiel had just reappeared
after a harrowing escape aboard a trading freighter bringing in cargo from
Romulan territory. Unbeknownst to the small Ferengi captain, he had had a
hidden transportee.

Of Rhianna's family only Senator Jakiel, the girl's grandfather and an
Intelligence agent, had been told of her appearance back into Federation
territory. The young woman had been immediately sequestered, the exhaustive
testing and scanning proceeding of psychological, medical and intellectual
natures.

Josiah Jakiel became her intercessor between that department of intrigue and
paranoia, Starfleet Intelligence, by tempering their incessant attempts at
interrogation or 'intelligence gathering' as they preferred to term their
actions. In the end, Rhianna emerged to be stationed on a non-descript
Starbase of her choosing. If one were privy to her records, they would see
plainly Rhianna's intense dislike of anything covert, but then they would
also see Intelligence's equally intense desire to bring the Romulan/Betazoid
into their fold. By agreeing to Rhianna's wishes, they hoped eventually to
persuade the young woman to join them.

A brief summary of her mother, Tessa Jakiel, is needed at this point to
explain the tragic circumstances surrounding Rhianna's conception.

Years back, when Tessa and Ariel, identical twins, were at the innocent peak
of their teen years, they were given a covert assignment with their father,
the then Ambassador Jakiel of Betazed to Earth, while, ironically, more
negotiations towards peace were being conducted. This would be yet another
simple training mission for the girls, the plan for the fortnight called for
the twins to switch off every other day so both could further their training
experience.

The target was a suspected Tal Shiar agent, Sub-Commander Satoran, who by
coincidence was also bringing his son, a lesser officer on his father's
Warbird, one Tarrus. The goal was to gain entrance into their room and
unsuspecting mind to confirm Intelligence's suspicions. But the last
evening did not go as planned after Tessa, who had subbed in for sister
Ariel after she became ill, had finally won the handsome officer's
attention. Back in his room, Tessa had gained the necessary evidence, both
hard-copy and from his thoughts, to complete the mission. But by the time
Ambassador Jakiel had gained access to send a humiliated Tarrus to the
nearest medical facility after mentally 'hearing' his daughter's cries for
help, the enraged officer, having been spurned by the young Betazoid, had
already forced the conception of the child who would, in ten months,
eventually become Rhianna.

One step away from an intergalactic incident threatening to break that
tenuous balance between the two enemies, both sides, for their own reasons,
hushed the whole affair and buried it deeply, leaving the consequences for
the Jakiel family to deal with.

Back to Rhianna, the Ambassador and his wife took custody of the baby and
raised her under the Rezoph name on peaceful Betazed, further trying to hide
her origins, so Tessa could continue her life by eventually attaining
psychology and medical degrees with which she later took a position on the
USS Dublin. But as Rhianna grew, the openness of that planet's people never
allowed Rhianna to forget she was not wholly Betazoid as her Romulan nature
spoke loudly at times, such intense feelings at odds with the pacifistic
Betazoid emotions of the other children. Rhianna did prove to be a keen
learner, though, by applying herself with a sharp mind and focus.

As she matured into a young woman, her portrait assumed an almost mythical
quality with the golden hair of her mother, a raven black streak down the
center, elven-tipped ears and upturned brows pointing to her father's
Romulan characteristics. Her features are elegant and willowy, her manner
confident and at times taking the haughty poise of her Rihannsu roots. But
when her Betazoid nature is brought forth, those same features turn soft and
gentle as her mother. A side often suppressed by the things she suffered in
her teens at Romulan hands.

Questions from the young girl about her father were deflected; her
grandfather, Ambassador Jakiel, subtly erecting barriers to stay her
curiosity on the subject. As Rhianna neared the age of nine, Mother Jakiel,
as everyone fondly called her grandmother, took ill with Anzora's Syndrome
and was forced into isolation to quell the disease's symptoms. At the same
time, Rhianna's guilt-ridden mother, Tessa Jakiel, now the executive
officer of the USS Dublin was coming to terms with the assault of the past
and stood up to take on the responsibility of the daughter hidden.

Unfortunately, by an accidental fluke of Romulan surveillance about a year
and a half later, a short video of mother and daughter came to the attention
of a sharp eyed vidproofer when he noticed his people's curious features on
the beautiful ten year old girl and decided to look into the bio history of
Tessa Jakiel and Rhianna Rezoph. The long buried incident surfaced and the
shocked father was outraged, becoming determined to reclaim a daughter he
had not known existed.

The always opportunistic Romulan faction of Tal Shiar was quick to back the
effort, seeing a golden opportunity-an agent of great value if the girl was
found to possess the mind reading capabilities of her Betazoid origins.

And thus began the new path for Rhianna, 'ruled by fire', when she was
'procured' by the Romulans, leaving a distraught mother behind, her daughter
lost to her once again.

Growing up parallel to her younger self, Rhianna was trained in the shadow
of the Tal Shiar, an emphasis on the scientific and medical areas. But
always her memories and Betazoid nature would fight to regain control.
Eventually she did make her escape on the trader ship to leave the life on
Romulus. After being placed on the Starbase, Rhianna, by a quirk of fate,
met and was befriended by an unlikely source, an Andorian chief tactical
officer by the name of Kizlev Hy'Qiin of the USS Geneva who also had
previously served beside her mother, Tessa, while they both were on the USS
Dublin. For whatever reasons, Kizlev suspended the suspicions against her
that others held so deeply and took her into his confidence, helping her
board the Geneva to start a new life.
